Phidim

Phidim is a village development committee in Panchthar District in the Mechi Zone of eastern Nepal. At the time of the 1991 Nepal census it had a population of 6518 people living in 1423 individual households.

Phidim or Feyden (Nepali: फिदिम) is the town in the foothills of mighty Kanchanjunga the second highest mountain of Nepal and the third highest mountain in the world. Phidim is the capital and administrative headquarter of Panchthar District one of the four districts of Mechi State in Eastern Nepal. Phidim is connected to the nation by Mechi Highway, which runs north towards Taplejung and down south to the plains towards Jhapa District meeting East-West Highway the number one Highway of the nation at Charali. It is about six hours drive from Charali to Phidim with billabong road but beautiful scenic drive as you can see the snow capped mountains and green vegetation along the roads.

Houses are mostly made of tin roof and concrete walls and floors. Agriculture is the major economy of the town and the district with cardamom; high quality tea, millet, fruits, vegetables and rice paper are some of the products of Phidim. But, Phidim still falls behind to market and export its products outside Phidim. Rais, Limbus, Magars, Tamangs, Chettri and Bhauns are some of the people that make the population of Phidim. Daily bus service operates from the Terai city of Birtamod.
